Did you know...

….average student debt is $30,000?

…more than 33 million Americans qualify for Income Driven Repayment plans (IDR)?

…1/4th of the workforce qualifies for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF)?

Qualified borrowers are often not aware of their options when it comes to student loan repayments and debt forgiveness. The National Education Association wants to make you aware of your options through the NEA Degrees Not Debt Campaign.

FIVE QUICK STEPS TO KICKING STUDENT DEBT:

step 1: PLEDGE

Every American deserves a fair shot at higher education, but student debt has become a barrier to accessing the American Dream. Raise your voice for college affordability. Take the NEA Degrees Not Debt Pledge at www.nea.org/degreesnotdebt.

step 2: Get a Federal Student Aid ID!

Access to your Federal Student Aid and Loan records allows you to apply for lower student loan repayment programs. Just go to https://fsaid.ed.gov/npas/index.htm to create a FSA ID and get started.

STEP 3: PUBLIC SERVICE

Borrowers who work in public service jobs often qualify for loan forgiveness programs. Use the Employment Certification for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) form at https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/sites/default/files/public-service-employment-certification-form.pdf) to keep track of your eligible employment and qualifying loan payments.

STEP 4: PAYMENTS

There are different plans that may help you lower your monthly student loan repayments. A calculator is available at https://studentloans.gov/myDirectLoan/mobile/repayment/repaymentEstimator.action to estimate your payment amounts under all available repayment plans. If you are ready to get started, all you need is your FSA ID. Go to https://studentloans.gov/myDirectLoan/index.action and sign in to get started.

STEP 5: PROMOTE
