Membership

Belonging to your local association, LAE, and NEA helps you to do what you do best: work with Louisiana’s children. Your membership connects you to nearly 3 million public school employees across the nation. Association membership allows you to draw upon the tremendous experience and expertise of your fellow members to help you improve your craft.

These are perhaps some of the most challenging times in the history of public education.

Lack of adequate and equitable funding, our accountability system’s ever-increasing standards, the unfunded federal mandates brought on by the so-called No Child Left Behind Act, the shortage of qualified and certified teachers, increasing health care costs, and the need to improve salaries and protect pensions are a few of the issues that we face today.

The only way to successfully challenge these issues is through a single, unified voice speaking for public school employees and working to advance public education. LAE is that recognized professional association.

Why Be a Member?

Membership has never been more important. Given the ever increasing demands on teacher accountability, student achievement and school funding it is critical to know and understand how changing legislation and policies and procedures will affect how you do your job and how your students learn.

Knowledge of change and results of change provide the confidence and security that allows you to do the best job possible.

For 25 years, LAE has been asking the questions and seeking the answers that will improve public education in Louisiana. Our members have demanded the information, the training and the guidance necessary to meet the challenges of the day and the challenges that are to come.

Our Uniserv program and staff have been there to help guide and assist our local leadership. Together we have been able to shape the education environment in Louisiana.

Members are the driving force of our organization. They are the ones asking the questions and raising the issues that need to be addressed.
