Talking Points For Political Action In Your Local

Here are a few points to help you engage the public and your colleagues

1. Politics affect your work environment. State and federal policies determine:

  • The qualifications and certification you need to teach
  • The size of your class
  • Whether you can bargain a contract or not
  • The amount of your pension
  • Whether you have tenure
  • The textbooks you may use
  • The salary you earn
  • The cost of your health care
  • LAE members and staff help protect your interests and we invite you to join us!

2. You have the right and responsibility to be happy in your job.

Your voice is the voice of knowledge and facts. Your experience is the reality of public education. Policies and work environment can only be changed if policy makers know what needs to be changed.

LAE is the voice of action and we invite you to help us!

3. Children depend on you every day.

The children of Louisiana deserve great schools, teachers and staff if they are to succeed in the future. You need all the funding and resources necessary to make sure this happens.

LAE members help to insure funding and resources to make every public schoola great school in Louisiana!

4. Politicians and policy makers need your opinion to make educated decisions that will benefit your work environment and the student achievement of all kids in Louisiana.

Legislators have hundreds of bills and issues to deal with every day. They make their decisions based on the opinions of the people and industry that they represent. People who are not pro public education speak to your representatives informing them of their opinions every day.

You are the voice in your community. An email, letter or phone call to your representative informing them of what is important and what needs their attention can help influence them to do what is right for public education in Louisiana.
