LAE's 2008 Legislative Initiative and Agenda

• A $2000 salary increase for all teachers
• An additional $5000 for teachers that hold a master's degree
• An additional $5000 salary increase for teachers that hold a Ph.D.
• A $2000 salary increase for educational support professionals
• An additional $2000 for all educational support professionals that have achieved "highly-qualified"
• Providing the cost of tuition and fees to those teachers who seek a master's degree if they volunteer to teach or teach in a school that has been classified as "academically failed"
• Create a plan for the future that will stipulate that in order to achieve the higher salary for advanced degrees, then the advanced degree must be in the area of certification or job assignment
• Monitor charter school legislation
• Propose legislation that provides for charter school accountability
• Protection of the retirement system
• Opposition to vouchers and tax credit/deduction schemes
