lae.org Instructional Advocacy New Teacher Guide

You want to teach.
We want to help

Public education is the greatest social success story of the nation. More Americans have achieved success in society due to public education than to any other factor.

Everything America is or ever hopes to be depends on what happens in public school classrooms. As a teacher in the classroom, your challenge and your opportunity is to help all students reach their potential. As our colleague Christa McAuliffe noted, “I touch the future; I teach.”

Now that opportunity to help shape the future lies with you as well.

Because you are now an important member of the teaching profession, this handbook is presented as a first step toward a successful and fulfilling career. We know that the sudden change from student to teacher can be dramatic and taxing, as well as scary and exciting. Many times it takes one to three years before a new teacher becomes familiar with the resources the district has to offer and the procedures it requires. The frustration that results from inexperience and lack of practical know-how can be overwhelming to the beginner. Look around at your colleagues, and remember that all of them went through what you are going through right now, and they made it!

The Louisiana Association of Educators (LAE) would like to see you make it too; therefore, LAE’s has developed a New Teacher's Guide— we suggest that it be the beginning of a professional resource. It is designed as a guide to help you make your first year less frustrating and help you meet the challenges of that first year.

We encourage you to get involved in your LAE local and assist us in promoting quality public schools, a strong profession and improve the well being of all our members.

Join today and receive immediate access to LAE programs and resources including a our award-winning new teacher CD-ROM, Wisdom on Demand: Your Guide to Professional Success.
