Job Description: The primary function of this position is to assist members with labor management relations. The person selected will demonstrate the ability to organize education employees and possess the leadership abilities necessary to develop comprehensive local association programs aligned with the mission and goals of the Louisiana Association of Educators through the organizing of local affiliates.


The successful candidate will demonstrate and understand the growing changes in the education environment; along with sound judgment; instincts and flexibility. In addition, the individual must be able to work effectively with colleagues, work teams, external work groups and state and local association leaders.


REPORTS TO: Regional Manager/Executive Director

Qualifications (adopted by the LAE Board of Directors)

1.    Successful experience as a certified teacher (master’s degree preferred); or

2.    Successful experience as an educational support professional with evidence of post secondary
degree/diploma/license/certificate or continuing education credits in their field of specialty;

3.    Ability to work independently and self directed;


4.    Effective oral and written communication skills;


5.    Working knowledge of word processing and publisher software applications;


6.    Ability to adapt actions to needs under strenuous and/or adverse circumstances;


7.    Strong interpersonal and social skills to work with a wide range of individuals and personalities;


8.    Advocate for members without passing judgment;


9.    Unselfish dedication to the values, philosophy and mission of the Association;


10.    Can travel and work flexible work days and work weeks as determined by the needs of the association;
and

11.    Analyze quickly and provide creative solutions for member issues


12.    Driver’s License and automobile required

 

Any qualification may be waived if it is in the best interest of the association to do so.

 

Education:  Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree preferred).

 

Environment: General office setting; numerous off-site meetings; occasional out-of-state travel; frequent participation on cross divisional teams and occasionally will be required to act as team leader.

Associate Staff-Clerical Membership

 

Job Description: Chosen candidate will work in LAE's Business and Finance Department as a membership clerk processing member records and maintenance updates. Other responsibilities include using the Interactive Membership System (IMS) and answering phones.

 

Reports to:  Executive Director and Assistant Executive Director for Business & Finance

 

Specific Responsibilities:

 

1.         Generate and prepare membership cancellation reports weekly

2.         Generate and prepare statewide tally and prior year membership reports

3.         Assist and prepare membership reports for NEA grants

4.         Prepare and analyze data to be used to in developing membership organizing

5.         Prepare and process UniServ grant data information on a quarterly basis

6.         Prepare and process payments received for membership dues on a monthly basis or as received from the vendor (Local or School Board)
7.         Process membership rosters accurately and appropriately
8.         Prepare and transmit batch reports  along with  proper documentation to Business and Finance
9.         Prepare deposit slips and forward with copies  of checks to Business and Finance
10.       Maintain filing system for membership rosters and member’s forms as received
11.       Maintain and update appropriate files and databases within the IMS membership system
12.       Maintain and update appropriate files and databases for Higher Education membership

13.       Maintain and update appropriate files and databases for student and retired membership

14.       Generate monthly accounts receivable reports  in an accurate and timely manner

15.       Generate membership rosters as needed to prepare reports membership fulfillments
16.       Accurately verify member’s membership within the association
17.       Accurately record members’ classification in the roles of the IMS membership system
18.       Prepare and process member drop request and refund member dues (if applicable)

19.       Prepare and mail local association’s membership statements on a monthly basis

20.       Prepare and process new member’s forms received from UniServ and/or other staff accurately and in a time manner

21.       Generate monthly Accounts Receivables, Transaction History, Local Disbursement Membership reports

22.       Generate annual year end reports- Accounts Receivable, Transaction History, Local Disbursement Reports
23.       Prepare membership material  for school representatives to be distributed

24.       Process changes to member records as requested
25.       Respond to member inquires and matters in relating to membership
26.       Work cooperatively with fellow staff members
27.       Perform other appropriate duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED (minimum); Associate’s Degree (preferred); knowledge of accounts receivable; knowledge of general accounting procedures; knowledge of relevant computer applications including Excel; proficient in data entry and management; 2-3 years of accounts receivable and general accounting experience.

 

Salary and Fringe Benefits: In accordance with the Louisiana Association State Staff Organization (LASSO) Agreement.
